U-Boat Sommerso 56
Forty-two millimetre is the new forty-five and thirty nine is the new forty-two when it comes to the size of this year’s watches.
But don’t tell Italian/Swiss watchmaker U-Boat Sommerso 56, which has just unveiled beefed up versions of its Sommerso dive watch in hefty 56mm cases.
Oversized watches are nothing new to U-Boat Sommerso 56, fans; in fact they are part of the brand’s DNA. U-Boat characterizes the latest Sommerso watches as professional diving instruments, water resistant to 300 meters, and they will certainly look in proportion when worn on the outside of a wet suit. Both have black dials and uni-directional bezels in blue, black and green; or black and green.
For diving and for every other occasion, the Sommerso line is enriched with two models with 56 mm cases resistant up to 300 meters and in an ultra-limited edition of only 20 pieces of each type.
The Sommerso model today gets a typical feature of the DNA of many Italo Fontana creations: large size. In limited edition, U-Boat Sommerso 56, is in fact unveiled with a satin steel case (AISI 316L) in two versions with considerable dimensions, 56 mm in diameter.
The watch is characterized by a unidirectional rotating bezel, an essential element of a professional dive watch, in two-tone aluminum available in two versions, blue / black and green / black, which, combined with a very high quality sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, frame a large and easy-to-read black dial, amplifying indices and numbers made of beige superluminova for the first version and green for the other.
Characterized by an additional 24-hour counter with a blue index, which reminds to a detail placed on the apex of the minute hand, U-Boat Sommerso 56, boasts a steel back-case fixed with 7 screws which ensures a water resistance up to 300 meters.
On the left hand side of the U-Boat Sommerso 56, watch, a plaque engraved with the serial number placed next to the characteristic patented crown cover, now an iconic symbol of the watches of the maison, and to finish the two models feature an ultra-resistant vulcanized rubber strap, in black color with the U-BOAT embossed logo and with a steel buckle.
A limited edition of a few pieces, 20 of each type, to never go unnoticed, which embodies Italo Fontana’s passion for diving and for large watches, the latter passion that made him famous all over the world, with the U-1942 model, as the designer of the greatest wristwatch ever made.
